Former Spartak head coach, Gilermo Abaskal, has spoken about his time working at the club. He addressed the criticism that Spartak is a prestigious club and not a place for experiments. Abaskal claimed that there were very few experiments during his tenure and that if they hadn't made mistakes in the first year, they could have been closer to a title. He also mentioned that injuries hampered the team's performance in the spring, resulting in them not achieving their goals. Therefore, it is difficult to say that it was an experiment, especially considering that they finished third in the Russian Premier League.
Abaskal highlighted the challenges they faced in the second season, stating that the objective was to finish first or second after securing third place in the previous season. However, their work did not bear fruit, indicating that if it was an experiment, it was a magnificent one.
Under Abaskal's guidance, the team achieved a bronze medal in the 2022/23 season.
