The key to being the host with the most this Christmas? Creating the chicest dinner table in all the land. While you may have done most of the important tasks on your hosting to-do list, chances are considering how you’re going to lay your festive table often gets left to the last minute. After all, there’s nothing very celebratory about sitting down to turkey and all the trimmings at a bare dinner table with a couple of lousy crackers.
We’ve tapped the creative nous of world-renowned florist and designer Willow Crossley for her Christmas tablescaping tips and tricks. Crossley suggests adding berry reds, plum purples, pine greens, and burnt oranges to your table for that Christmas feel. She also recommends adding a pop of pattern and sparkle to make it more playful. Layering and using a flowery tablecloth is also a great idea. For the napkins, matching or mis-matching them and adding huge velvet bows on the napkin rings can add that wow factor.
In terms of plates and cutlery, Crossley suggests using a plain plate to complement printed cloths and napkins. Scalloped cream plates are simple but not boring. For glasses, she recommends using Botanica print glasses in dark green and white to match the linens and create an airy and whimsical look.
For decorations, Crossley encourages creating your own centrepieces. Potting up paperwhites and hyacinths in different sized pots or using multicoloured anemones and ranunculus can bring a touch of nature to the table. Adding dried oranges, chocolate coins, and walnuts around candle holders can also provide a festive touch. Speaking of candles, Crossley suggests using bright colors or creams, but never white. An apple green color can also create a magical and uplifting atmosphere.
With these tips and tricks, your Christmas table will be the talk of the town. Don't forget to sign up to be the first to know about the latest fashion, travel, and lifestyle news and offers!
